A message from Iliff’s president, Rev. Dr. Thomas V. Wolfe:

I am pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Boyung Lee has accepted appointment to the position of Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. Dr. Lee will assume her new role on July 1, 2017.

Dr. Lee will be an outstanding addition to the Iliff community. Her scholarship, collegial style of leadership, and international reputation will open many doors to Iliff’s future. I have already come to know her commitment in service to the development of students and colleagues. She carries a generous spirit of relationship and brings hard work and joy to all of her encounters.

Dr. Lee’s theological and scholarly pursuit is fueled by a commitment to social justice and works hard to embody her commitment in her leadership and pedagogical practices. She also considers herself as a feminist communitarian educator as she values transparent communications and processes, consensus building, ongoing assessments of individual and communal needs, creating space for the least visible, delegating and stepping back for others, and setting boundaries with care.

Prior to accepting the position at Iliff, Dr. Lee served as Associate Professor of Practical Theology, Education, and Spiritual Formation at Pacific School of Religion, and a Core Doctoral Faculty member at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She started at PSR in 2002 and was the first woman of color tenured faculty. Dr. Lee is also an ordained United Methodist elder.

In addition to being an editorial board member of Religious Education, Journal of Feminist Studies and Religion, and International Journal of Practical Theology, she is also a board member of Religious Education Association and PANAAWTM (Pacific, Asian, North American Asian Women in Theology and Ministry), and a member of American Academy of Religion’s Teaching and Learning Committee, Women and Religion program and Transformative Pedagogy group.

I want to thank the search committee members – Miguel de la Torre, Ted Vial, Cathie Kelsie, Edward Antonio, Jennifer Leath, Carrie Doehring, Janice Turner – for the energy and time in the national search and identifying such a strong candidate to lead our academic team.

I also want to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of Dr. Albert Hernández for serving as the Academic Vice President and Dean of the Faculty for eight years.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Hernández for his service and welcoming Dr. Lee to her new position.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tom Wolfe
